The Absence

Hello everyone!

Let me just say that I have missed writing for you all daily and I feel bad about my online presence disappearing for awhile there. So let me go ahead and explain what happened.

So from where I can see on my blog, I left with a writing prompt that I never officially did myself. No worries there, tomorrow there will be a new post that will allow you to see how I handled that prompt. Don’t worry, it is something that I’ve had done for a little while, I just need to re-read it and make sure that errors and other problems were cleaned up.

So why the sporadic hiatus? Well originally that took place due to me falling ill. A few weeks ago, I found myself with an inability to swallow, body pains, and a stubbornness to go see the doctor. After a few days I relented and went and made an appointment, only to discover that I had an upper respiratory infection. Luckily, getting over it didn’t involve any specific medication, just a lot of time sleeping and keeping away from a screen, hence why I didn’t return back to the blog for a week.

From there, the hiatus grew longer as I accepted a position at a new job and began filling out the paperwork and preparing to start. I had initially planned on returning to this blog after I had my first successful day, but found myself unwilling to get back to writing. Call it lack of ambition or enjoying being back to work, but either way I stayed away from writing something new.

But here we are and I have finally found my groove and need to write again. I believe at this point, looking at my blog and the successful, and oft times not successful posts, I have decided to keep the formula close to being the same. I will continually provide writing prompts for readers to do, show how I handled the prompt, and even provide some free creative stories once again.

However, I will be looking to add something new as well. Whether it is doing reviews, writing about something that has garnered my interests, or just a post like this, where I speak to anyone willing to listen, I will bring some kind of new writing to the fold.

So thank you to those that have followed my page and read what I have to say and start making a point to come visit these posts once again, I promise that you won’t be disappointed.

P.S. visit my Amazon page whenever you have a chance because within the next few days I will be releasing a new, non-fiction piece just in time for Halloween.

Short and Sweet

Hello everyone! Happy Monday and I hope all of you are having a great start to the week!

Now usually Monday’s are a weird space for me on my blog. Sometimes I shamelessly promote my work. Other times, I give updates on what I’m currently writing. There have even been a few times where the start of a story takes place (like last Monday, and yes, I still plan on finishing that). Today however, I thought I’d keep things short and sweet.

So first off, as I am apt to do every month, let me start this thread by just saying thank you! In only a few month’s time I’ve quickly been able to get my work and my writing out there to an audience that is slowly but surely growing everyday. I absolutely love the support everyone gives me and the interest that they have in what I have to write and say, so thank you! Thank you for the reviews that you’ve left on my book, thank you for reading my blog posts every week, and thank you currently for your efforts in voting in Author Shout’s Cover Wars.

Now for those of you that don’t follow me on social media, and really you should because I post great content daily, I recently entered the cover of A Monstrous Tomorrow into Author Shout’s Cover Wars competition. The event began yesterday and run’s until 8 am eastern time on Sunday 9/30/18. If you haven’t had a chance to get over to that page to vote for my cover or haven’t done so yet today, I would greatly appreciate it. Winning this competition gives A Monstrous Tomorrow free publicity as their “book of the week.” So what does this include? Well simply that they promote my book on their website, shout outs, and newsletter. All of this would be huge for me since I’m a still a relatively unknown writer. It’s easy to get to, but just in case, the link to the voting can be found here.

In addition to voting for my book to win Cover Wars, which btw my dad made the cover so voting for it is also telling him he did a job well done, I could also use more reviews on my book on Amazon. Currently I’m sitting at 9 and with one more Amazon will begin to recommend my book to people reading similar works. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, it can be something simple as “I loved this book!”

If you can’t afford the book right now, I would also keep an eye out in the future. Last week I ran a countdown sale on the Kindle edition which was counting down the days, until my favorite season, autumn, started. Now I’m saying a ton of great deals will be going on during October, but it is my birth month AND Halloween coincides well with some of the themes in my book, so I’d keep an eye out for some killer deals then.

I believe that’s all I have to say in this post for now. Thanks again for being an amazing support system and as more people come forward to share my work and tell people, the more I’ll be able to put out. Have a great day everyone, hope you kick ass at this entire week, and come back to the page tomorrow for the next installment of my daily writing prompt!

Update On….ME!

Hey everybody, so I just thought I would just do a quick post today to give an update on me, myself, and I. It will basically cover what I’ve been working on and why there haven’t been as many posts as I usually do.

So to start things off, I would like to let everyone know that if you have the time and energy, I will be doing a book signing of A Monstrous Tomorrow in Peru, Illinois. Details are listed on my Facebook page. The event will run from 1-3:30 with yours truly doing a reading from the book (which story is still being determined) along with a Q&A session after. There will be a limited quantity of books for sale and will run $10 a piece. Please bring cash or make sure to try and get your copy of the book through Amazon ASAP.

Next order of business is the sequel to A Monstrous Tomorrow, or as it its known on this blog, A Book Has No Name. As it stands, I’ve only written one chapter since the last time I gave any information on the book. As a reminder, it will be a full length novel and not a collection of short stories this time around. It will feature one of the characters from A Monstrous Tomorrow, so if you’re interested in the second book of The Forsaken World Chronicles, I highly recommend reading A Monstrous Tomorrow.

Besides the book, there are two other projects I’m working on. One is entirely under wraps but let me just say, when it’s done, everyone will fall in love with it. The other is of course, Pantheon Productions. We have backtracked a bit and began filming short creative pieces again and look forward to getting those out to the public soon. In the meantime, I am continuing to try and strive towards making our three fiction towns feel as real as possible.

I believe that is it for now. As it stands, my focus over the past two weeks was first vacation and now my book signing. After this weekend, my focus will return to solely the blog and only my writing projects.

Make sure to come back tomorrow because I can guarantee there will be a new fiction piece up for everyone to enjoy!

A Trend in Writing

As usual, I will try and keep this week’s blog post short and sweet as we come cruising in on the weekend full force. To end the week, I just wanted to touch on some trends I’ve noticed while entering the indie author scene and was hoping to get some feedback on this.

One of the main things I’ve noticed about a lot of authors that I’ve interacted with lately is that they are using their first two initials and then a last name for their pen name. Is there something that I have missed out on in this trend? Is there a reason for going this route?

Now don’t get me wrong, I completely understand why a lot of people like using pen names. I personally thought about using one for a long time. There is nothing quite like being able to ensure your privacy when you want it. There is also the thrill of being able to separate your work from yourself. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen various authors have to explain that something a character said or believes isn’t what they personally believe. So yes, I understand the use of a pen name, I just don’t get the current trend of imitating C.S. Lewis. If anyone can explain, that’d be great because I’m at a loss.

The other trend that I’ve noticed is that there is still a big run on people either writing supernatural romances or fantasy. A decent amount of science fiction is being done as well. The main thing I want to address with this is an article that I read several years back. I’ve done my research and sadly I can’t find it. Essentially, it was written after 9/11 and during the Bush administration, It discussed the fact that artists have a tendency of creating art that reflects their time. (Also, I know that is a concept that is taught all through school, I’m just lamenting not finding this one specific article because it made more relevant references).

So, I think my big question is this, or I guess, questions is more appropriate. First and foremost, is this adventure into science fiction, paranormal, and fantasy being written as a response to a current political environment? I know personally my series is. My other question is if it’s not a direct response to these things, is it what pop culture is still demanding? Or is it neither of those things, and just the typical fact that authors are strange souls that enjoy writing on their observations in weird, twisted ways. That’s also something I personally like to do.

Anyway, I would love to be able to engage with people reading my blog, so let’s start talking! Post some answers below and lets have a discussion!

Talk to you soon.

Update: Where Have I Been?

Hello all!

Let me first start off by giving an apology for my disappearance over the last two weeks. As I sit here and write this post I realize that there hasn’t been anything posted in the last two weeks so I thought I would just give an update on where I’m at and what I’m doing.

First and foremost, if you haven’t heard yet, Kylee and I recently made a big move to Champaign. It’s been pretty exciting and I personally can’t wait to explore this town and see what all it has to offer. That is essentially the main reason for my mini hiatus. We spent a bit of time getting things packed up, then of course moving it, and then finally going through the usual long and boring process of unpacking. Now that we’re settled in however, I plan on getting back to writing and posting content daily.

During this off-time however, I had been thinking of how I’m going to format this blog. The first week where I wrote about millennials for a few days was fun, but I don’t believe having a weekly theme is going to be as great as I initially envisioned. Instead, I want to be more hands on with my approach. I want to be able to reach out to my audience and see what YOU, my readers would like to see each day. My plan is to ask each morning for a topic to write on and if I don’t get any responses, so be it. I’ll find something myself. No matter what though, expect some new work to be coming your way each day.

One thing that will stay the same from my initial idea is giving free creative content each week. When I started, I had one creative piece entitled “The Old Man and the Millennial,” which if you haven’t read it yet, give it a look, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. Much like my regular blog posts, I will crowd source during the day to see if anyone has a particular story, setting, plot, etc, they would like me to take a swing at. My goal is to try and do this every Tuesday and Thursday so if that’s all you want to read, keep an eye out for it then.

Finally, since my primary writing style is creative writing, I thought I may share just a tidbit of what creative work I’m currently doing. The big project that I’m taking on, with the help of my buddy Jurgen, is an expansive YouTube universe. I’m currently in the process of writing several scripts, which we hope to continuously film over the next several months. We even started our own page and production group called Pantheon Productions, and if you like the page this week you’ll get to see a nice introduction video that will go into greater detail of what we’re working on and what to expect.

So that’s it for this post. If you have any questions or ideas for my next post, feel free to get at me on this site or on my Facebook or Twitter. Have a great one everyone and expect some fun things to head your way!
